A very new newbie

I started researching raw cause of my mum who's got some bad cancers in her. I started into reading about anything I can that would maybe help her cancers out and it seemed that raw was indeed the way to go. But the more I read about raw so I could speak intelligently to answer her questions, the more I really dug into the idea of being raw myself (dug... raw.... ugh, me and me garden variety humour. Forgive, please. ).

Anway, I've got some nasty medical problems myself that I'm hoping raw can help with that (me family's cursed, what can I say?). I know nothing's the cure-all but yea it would be nice to have a meal or even a snack that doesn't involve a wretched stomach ache or massive heartburn immediately thereafter. Truth told, I'm sick of feeling sick and I'd love to find relief if I can. But I don't tell anyone of this at all. I keep this to myself and suffer in silence but I'm really tired of suffering and I'd love a way out of it. If I can.

I picked my username cause I feel like there's a side of myself that's been coming to light as of late - a part of me that's haunting the conscious me to be what I know I should be even though I don't have courage or knowledge enough to make steps to that direction.

Wow, I must sound like a real nutter but I'm truely not. I'm just wanting me mum and maybe even me to feel well again. All the things I've read so far point to the raw ways so I guess I'm ready to travel upon the path and take whatever comes to me. I'm just glad the path so far has led me to this place. I can't wait to dive in and learn all I can from the lot of you. I have good feelings this will help me muchly.

Thank you so much for listening to me rambles and I'm quite excited to meet you all.

Welcome Doppleganger! It's good to have you here! I'm new to this too, but have also been doing tons of research on the topic as welll, and I agree that you're moving in the right direction - for you and your mum!!

I will say from my own experience, that I find it much easier to stick to if you strive for 100% raw rather than allowing leeway - those leeways wind up opening floodgates for me. I'd been doing well for the past four days then last night, family stress hit, and it was pizza at midnight I'm back on raw today - I think that's the most important thing - don't let the cooked stuff snowball you away from raw. If you indulge in cooked food every now and again, get right back onto raw.

There are many, many opinions on the best ways to go raw. Find the one that best suits you and stick with it. I like the Taliferos best of all - they don't use dehydrators or dehydrated foods (www.thegardendiet.com), and also love Patenaude's stuff too (http://www.fredericpatenaude.com/). Roger Haeske is another good one I've found (http://www.howtogoraw.com/). There's quite alot of free helpful info on their sites, as well as things that can be purchased. The Taliferos have also started a raw vegan channel online which I think is excellent There's a link to it on their main page for their Raw Paradigms channel ($10 per month -or pay per show downloads $2 - $5).

I like keeping it simple mainly, with a good raw vegan recipe evry few days, like an herb salad, raw pasta or raw vegan tacos. I find it's good to break it up. When I first tried to go raw I went all complex and thought going raw meant gourmet everyday...who has the time??? That attempt failed due to time and financial constraints. The next time I kept it simple - just pick whatever my fancy in the produce sections, cut it up and eat it. That attempt failed because I panicked - my husband said he wanted to go raw, but then I noticed that I was the only one eating the raw stuff - so I started cooking again to get him to eat, and once again fell off the wagon. This is my third attempt this year, and hubby says to not worry about him. He does want to go raw, but he's very addicted to cooked and processed foods (hence the pizza last night). So, I guess I get more determined each time, and just take it day by day.

I suffer from invasive candidaisis. It's when the yeast cells in your body take over and hammer your major organs. My liver and kidneys have been taking a beating for some time now. It can be fatal if left untreated. I was made aware of this by a Chiro-vedic doctor I was seeing last year. He took me entirely off caffiene, wheat, and sugar, and was pumping me full of probiotics to kill of the candida. I went from a score of 4 down to 2 in six months, whereas a healthy person is around .50 - 1. I felt good - I was walking over 3 miles per day, meditating, and losing lots of weight. But then life got in the way and he moved his office too far for me to reach, all those healthy habits fell away

I also have developed some rather suspicious looking moles over the years that my new doc wants to remove and have tested for cancer. I haven't been able to afford the co-pay ($300) but hope to have that soon. I can tell from the past week of going raw that my yeast cells are running amok again, but I know that if I can get to and stay 100% raw, that will be corrected.

Best of luck to you in this

Hi There,
Had to reply to your post! Your family's not cursed, the only reason people get ill is because of what they are eating. Cooked food is poison. Your body always attacks it as if it is poison. This never happens with raw foods.
The raw food diet is a 'cure all'. You have found it, you lucky thing!
Cancer cannot survive in a body fed on raw food. All the evidence is out there, scientific, and personal experience.
We're the only animal that cooks its food. Wild animals don't get diseases. The only animals that get ill are those which eat cooked food.
I feed my cat raw meat, he has never been ill, he is huge, beautiful and is like a kitten in energy.
You sound like you're on the brink of a wonderful big change in your life. Just know that as you go raw, you will influence and inspire other people to health, just by your example.
You will get rid of ALL your health problems,
You will become the vibrant healthy girl you know you are deep inside.
Best of luck on your raw journey, you have found the magic key, now use it!

Love and Rainbows Zoe.

Wow. Thank you so much for the warm welcomes and LapisRose, thank you especially for those links. I'll be sure to check them all out.

For the past few mornings, I've been eating yellow squash chips with bean sprout dip for breakfast/lunch and I can't get over how good I feel! Energised, alert and ready to face the day head-on. The best part: no massive heartburn and no feeling like I'm trying to digest a brick. I feel like I'm even less bloated, too. I think I could really fall in love with this.

Since my husband knows that I usually eat what my body asks for, he hasn't thought it odd that I'm eating more salads lately (I haven't really told him what I'm doing and won't until I get my head firmly around this lifestyle). The other day, though, he shocked me by telling me he wants to buy a juicer for us for Christmas and would I kindly read round to find what juicer would be best suited for us to have. Mr. meat and potatoes wants to start juicing? Knock me over with a frawn of fennel, miracles _do_ happen (this was the same man that announced that under no circumstances would he be reduced to eating twigs and branches like I do - how people do change ).

Me mum's still the clog in the clockwork but I'm working on her to be sure. She's convinced that the meals would be far too complex for her and the ingredients would be much too hard to find. I know where she is, she can at least find raw nuts and good produce but it stuns me that there are those who would rather die with their addictions than to be liberated and live. I'm still working on finding the right red flag that turns that bull around and I shall find it by hook or crook.

I have a question (ok, two questions): Why do people soak their nuts and would anything happen if the nuts were soaked longer than the recipe called for?

Keep on RAWking!

Hey -

Soaking the nuts makes them easier to digest and less likely to cause gasiness. If you soak them for too long, they will lose their texture

It sounds like you're doing very well! I'm still struggling - hoping to do better this week!!! Best to you

I'm not sure how brilliant I'm doing... about a week or so ago I started getting these really nasty pains in my stomach and my backside went... um.... flowing like a river for days on end (I can't really put it any more delicately than that, sorry). Since then, anything I eat that's raw gets me in a bad way.

Pity, too cause I love the food but really, I can't see myself living my life in grammie dypers.

*sigh* I feel like a failure.

Dont give up Doppelganger, your body is probably going through a healing crisis, which is actually a good thing. It's adapting to a new way of life. So many people give up when they show signs of detoxing, but trust me, stick with it and you will be more than fine. What might help is if you cut back on your fruit consumption for now. Please perservere, and you are so not a failure. Love and Peace x
