New to this

Hello, I am new to this raw foods thing but agree it is the best thing to do for my family. We gave it a valiant try 3months ago and then 'fell off the wagon' due to no enough equipment or knowledge. I would really like to start up again next monday is my goal. 7/31/06 However I NEED HELP PLEASE. I do not know very many foods outside the basic produce and only own a blender no dehydrator or food processor yet. I would like to keep it simple to start but, also with enough items to feel like I am still eating so to speak. I will be more apt to stay on it this time if I know what I am doing!!! as I get comfortable I will expand on my recipes. Is there anyone that can help me to get started with recipes and such. It may help to know that I will be preparing meals for my 4 children as well. I don't want to send them into shock by removing all their favorite stuff with out suppling a good alternative.

Thank you all so much in advance for the help

firm foundation

Hi There "Struggling",

I seem to be always giving the same advice, but until someone tells me otherwise, I will just keep on giving it.

It is my firm belief that live-foods need to be fun and delicious and approached with excitement and joy in order to stay with it and keep all the associations good. Food is about association - hence phrases like "comfort foods". With 4 children it is even more important as you will be building for them new associations and a firm foundation for healthy lives to come. What a gift you will be giving them if you do it well.

The key is to take it slow. Substitute one yummy unhealthy thing a week or even a month with something else yummy but healthy. You all having been eating a certain way for a long time and it ??s ok for your transition to take some time. It will be more solid then. For instance, if the kids like ice cream, you can make them banana ice cream in a food processor or a smoothie in the blender you have or fresh squeezed juice frozen pops. You can get those pop makers in a dollar store. Once sweet yummy for another. If you take it slow then you can take the time you need to get a high powered blender and then an Excalibur dehydrator. In the dehydrator you can make warm yummy cookies and then crackers to put guacamole on. Let the kids eat exactly the way they are now and get them all excited to help you make a new treat. That ??s the ticket to success in my opinion. Even with adults. Substitution and great new associations. Feeling better physically and emotionally will be achieved without the feelings of deprivation. Their little bodies will get used to good food and crave it.

I can give you some good recipes for smoothies and banana ice cream if you like.
Best of luck to you,
Greenbunny
