Raw Pregnancy

I thought I miscarried in August. I was only a week or so pregnant. I had two ultrasounds in early sept., both showed empty sac, and my uterus measured 5 weeks. My blood tests still indicate HCG at low levels...decreasing little by little since September after a surge. However, I am gaining a little weight...in my waistline. I have been feeling little movements these last few days, mostly when I am sitting. I wonder if I am in fact still pregnant. My midwife says that we will not be able to detect anything on an ultrasound with this low a level of HCG(4 hundreds?).
I have been bleeding for about 9 days, with some clotting. I eat predominantly raw foods and have been doing so for a little over a year, and wonder if maybe that has something to do with low HCG levels. As I know not much research has been done on the subject of Raw Vegan diet, but I do know that it changes your alkaline/acid balance...and a lot more (for the better)! So, what else could those little movements be? Any ideas?

I don't want to give you false hopes but I can tell you a true story. I was 1 week pregnant, confirmed by my doctor and I had the exact same thing happen to me as what you described. A couple of weeks later I started to spot. I went to the doctor and he said I needed complete bedrest and couldn't lift anything over 5 pounds or I would lose the baby. My husband at the time was not working (only I was) and so I couldn't stay in bed and rest. I resolved myself to the fact that I would most likely lose this baby. Another week went by and I was at work and felt a gush and the next thing I knew there was blood everywhere and cramping. I went to the hospital (riding the back of a motorcycle-not the ideal situation) and they [hospital]informed me that I had miscarried. Saw a doctor a couple of days later, the HCG levels had decreased over the weekend, he also did an ultrasound and examined tissue/clots of blodd. I went back home and then continued working and my period continued on for about 3 more weeks. I had no doubt that I had lost the baby. The bleeding wouldn't stop so my doctor suggested a D & C. I did not have medical insurance at the time and so I didn't have it done. I decided I would go to the doctors as soon as I qualified for medical insurance through my employer. Well, the bleeding eventually stopped and I decided I didn't need a D &C and I delayed going to see the doctor because my period was back on track but several weeks later I decided that I should probably have a check up to make sure I was really o.k. I went to the doctor and he informed me that I was 4 months pregnant! How can this be when the hospital told me I had miscarried? The doctor couldn't explain it. Anyway, my daughter is now 18 and a freshman in college. I am not giving medical advice, and I was not eating raw at the time but your story reminded me of mine. The doctor may recommend a D & C to clean you out--but keep in mind you could possibly still be pregnant. I was. If I had had the recommended D & C I would have lost her. I would assume that you are [pregnant]until you are sure that you aren't. That's just my advice. I hope you find out soon and its the news that you want!

What a story Gypsie!!!

Isn't the internet a miraculous thing?! Here someone (probably living in a far off place from you) that you never met is experiencing something that might be the same strange thing you went through 18 years ago.... and here you are able to share it and perhaps affect such important choices in her life.

The very best of luck to you Jaime. You might have met here one of the few people that have gone through what you think you might be going through. She gives you very prudent counsel to assume that you are pregnant until proven otherwise based on her experience.

I'm in awe.

I know it! That's what I was thinking as I read Jaime's situation. I forgot to mention that one theory (although never confirmed) was that perhaps I was pregnant with twins (fraternal) and actually miscarried one but not the other. But the ultrasound never confirmed that. One thing is for sure, my daughter wouldn't have survived a D&C. Good luck to you Jaime! No matter what the outcome, listen to your body and follow your instincts. My situation was 18 years ago, so I don't know if things would be different now. I am grateful for the internet because when used with good intentions it can be a great way to reach out to people. Love it!

Gypsie.

Thank you for sharing that Gypsie - makes me wonder how many babies have been snuffed out during D & C. People shouldn't mess with nature.

God was surely looking out for your daughter! I've heard so many stories like yours where people were going through real tough & turbulent times, only to find a blessing at the outcome.

With my 2nd child I had some mild spotting during the first month. It wasn't a full period and it confused me, then I found out that I was pregnant a month later. I know spotting happens during pregnancies a lot.

Thank you

Thank you both for your responses. I really appreciate hearing from others that are so supportive. I responded yesterday with a lengthy reply, but for some reason I was unable to post it. Anyhow, the summary is : thank you. I guess we will find out one way or the other right? I also will not interfere with nature...some might say (my sister, unfortunately) that I wouldn't have had these really confusing months if I had just done the D&C. But my response is like both of yours. I will not interfere. Even if I am not pregnant, I am happy with my choice to let my body do what it needs to. And maybe if I am not, I am suppossed to have this whole experience for a reason. As of now, I am unsure of that reason, but I know with certainty that it will be revealed at some point.

Thank you both again for your responses and positive support.
Take good care,
Jaime
