New to Raw and new to Forum

Where do I start well, I am Brigid and I live in Calgary, Alberta Canada. I am a "freshie" in rawland. I have toyed with vegetarianism for over 30 years and I eat poultry and seafood on rare occasions. I was diagnosed with Hashimotos Disease and Celiac Disease last year. Leaving glutenous foods behind like bread was not difficult but sometimes I crave a gluten pizza and remember all the pain I went through and I walk away from it.

I saw something on television about raw foods and it interested me. I am person who has alway preferred vegetables and fruit to other things. I went to my first raw uncooking class yesterday and it was very interesting and the food was great. Of course one of the great benefits of raw is that I would never have to read a label again.

I fear this may be a little harder for me than walking away from gluten because sometimes I like things like chicken jerky or soups. So, I think I will need support from others who struggle or have struggled, good suggestions etc.

Hi Brigid,

I certainly have done my share of struggling and would be happy to help any way I can.

I still eat cold-smoked wild-caught salmon which is great when having a fish craving.

You can still have soup and be raw. There are lots of recipes in different books, and probably on this website. You can heat them just a little to have that warm, yummy soup feeling. I have miso soup most days. I love soup too.

About chicken jerky - you might want to find out what the seasonings are in it and eat those on live foods. I have found that often with foods like that I am actually craving an herb or salt. There are good versions of most herbs and salt that you can have instead.

Best of luck,
Greenbunny
