newly pregnant intro

hi fellow raw foodies!
so i've been in the health food industry for a couple of years (but been personally into it for far longer than that), and about a year ago met some people who exposed me to the world of raw food.

long story short, about 2 months ago i started going raw, started at about 70% and within a couple of weeks, became about 90-100% raw. i feel fantastic...so fantastic, that when my hubby and i decided to try to get pregnant, after my first month being raw, we were successful!!

i know a great deal about nutrition (i'm about 6 months away from being a certified nutritionist), but eager to obtain as much information as possible about raw food nutrition during pregnancy. any help/advice/suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

thanks!

Hey I'm going to have to talk to you about getting your nutrition degree. I'm looking into nutrition and I was wondering if you learned about raw food or if you just learned about "the food pyramid" and other standard American ways. I think it would be really cool to help people understand their body better and feel better for the rest of their life.

the certified nutritionist program that i'm doing is kind of like an associate's degree. it's a 2 year distance learning program that i got involved with when i was managing a health food store. it's geared more towards alternative healing, vitamins/minerals/supplements/herbs to take for certain conditions and also emphasizes a primarily vegetarian diet and also discusses lifestyle recommendations too. the "food pyramid" thing you're thinking of is more of a registered dietitian program that's a 4 year degree that, of course is something i'm not at ALL interested in.

as far as the raw food lifestyle goes, what i know is primarily self taught. i have been fortunate to meet some really great people that know A TON and have been very forthcoming with whatever information they have and it has inspired me to incorporate the raw food lifestyle into what i'm learning through my program for when i actually do something with this degree!

if you're interested, check out the website for my school, it's www.ahsu.com (american health science university)

Cool thank you. I'm looking into a 4 year college but I don't see raw food anywhere. Maybe I could get a four year degree in nutrition (registered dietitian) and influence people with my experience with raw and that way ordinary people would take more stock in what I say because I have a degree. My parents want me to go to a four year university. So I pretty much have to find something there. I don't know just a thought. Thanks again!

you may also want to look into the tree of life rejuvination center in patagonia, az. i'm not sure of all of their programs, but i do know that they have a master's program in vegan nutrition. if you do decide to look into the rd program, just be very sure of what you get yourself into! just by the mere fact that you're a raw foodie, you may find yourself extremely opposed to everything the rd program stands for!!

I assume that there's always going to be something I don't agree with but as long as they have substantial evidence to support their teachings. I wish there was something in Michigan but I'll look into that too. Thanks. I used to be into the Gatorade and Power bar thing and those supposedly "sports nutrition" foods but I found that they were practically packing sugar into a block or putting it in our water. I learned that there's more to the body than energy consumption. So their findings are interesting but I just adjust their ideas to raw food substitutes.
