New to Raw
Hello, my name is Patrice! I am very new to eating raw. However, I really want to know how to eat a very simple fruit based vegan raw diet and feel very satisfied and balanced. I have asked so many people who say that they are eating raw foods and they do not return a answer to my email. I am upset by it. I have a family with three small kids and a husband who don't share my thoughts of going raw. How can I live a very simple lifestyle of going raw? I don't have the money to go out an buy all of these appliances. I want to do a simple pick-up and go raw lifestyle. Can you help me with this? I am at the point of giving up on trying to go raw. I am thinking that my husband is right about not going raw. This forum is the last place that I will ask about the raw lifestyle ever again. If anybody can just make it simple and plan to me. Thank you for all of your help. How do you start a new thread on the forums.Patrice

I eat mostly a simple diet. I do dehydrate and juice, especially since it's the only way I'm going to keep my husband eating raw foods!
It may be too simple... I buy lots of different produce, from farmers markets when I can. For breakfast I may have two pieces of fruit, then some nuts. Lunch I'll have a salad and I make raw dressing which is very easy in a blender. Dinner I'll cut up veggies and eat them like that, I usually make a raw dip like hummus for my husband. A food processor does make it convenient to cut veggies faster and to make desserts but it's really not necessary on a simple raw diet.
A far a pick-up and go lifestyle. That's very easy with this way of eating. I travel all the time and it's so much easier and faster to stop at a grocery store and pick up and apple and theres lunch! Generally, I carry with me in the car an ice chest, knife, cutting board, peeler, waters, and a large water container (those 3.5 gallon ones with a spout) that way I can wash veggies too.
Hope this helps!

hey snowbunny, i have tried to make hummus repeatedly because i love the cooked version....i can't seem to make it tasty enough. i sprout the garbanzo beans and add lemon juice and garlic. that doesn't seem to do it. do you have a secret ingredient or advice on a better recipe?

Hi Pat,
I wrote you a long respond too! Raw foods are very easy - the easiest way to eat really. Much easier than cooking. The cookbooks have to try to make it complex or they won't be able to sell them. If having it easy is the only thing keeping you from eating then raw foods is definitely for you. Read my response to your other post and if that isn't enough, I will come up with more ideas for you.

Hello this is Patrice and I wanted to know something. Can I eat fresh fruit or a smoothie for breakfast, fresh veggies or salad's for lunch, and a salad for dinner? Where does the nuts, seeds, and sprouts fall into eating raw? What about a good simple salad dressing or dip that is easy to make? I do thank you for all of your help. Patrice

Hi Pat,
I soak nuts and seeds overnight and put some in my morning smoothies to add some protein and substance to the smoothie. The best tasting thing to do is to soak nuts, dehydrate them, make them into nutbutter in a vitamix, store them in fridge and then add the nutbutter to the smoothie - but right now without my dehydrator and vitamix I can't do that so I just put the soaked nuts and seeds right into the blender. It is simpler. You can also put soaked seeds on your salads. Some good choices are sunflower seeds, pumpkin seeds and pine nuts. Just soak them in the morning and by the time lunch comes they will be ready to put on your salad. Try putting just a tiny bit of crushed seaweeds on your salads too for minerals. There are lots of fabulous recipes using soaked nuts and seeds, but they take time and effort and what you outlined was a perfect and easy raw food diet for warm months. In the winter, dpending on where you live, you might have to add some warming foods, but right now you're golden. It really is simple. There are lots and lots of recipes for dips and sauces and salad dressings that you can play with when you have some time and then you can keep them in the fridge to dip your veggies in. That can be the fun creative part. My salad dressings come out different every single time to keep things interesting. I just grab different things and mix away. Nama shoyu, oils, vinegars, misos, lemon and unlimited spices and seasonings make your choices unlimited. It really depends on your taste buds. The idea that we have to eat lots of different foods all at the same time goes against nature really. The simpler, the more natural and the healthier. Just eat what you want that is raw when you want it and forget about any stereotyped shoulds as to what a meal ought to be. What you outlined sounds great as long as it satisfies you and makes you happy. You can always complicate things more if you want but simple really is all you need.
Oh, there's a book by Gabriel Cousens that has some great recipes for dips. Do you have a vitamix? If you don't have a vitamix don't bother with them except maybe easily mashed things like guacamole. You need a vitamix to make most of those dips really smooth.
Let us know how you do!
