Hi, I'm Suzy, newbie, of course, or I wouldn't be introducing myself. I am new to the raw food concept and I am hoping to get instructions, opinions and support. I am a single mom of 4, 3 of whom have moved on to their adult lives and the fourth just turned 18 and graduates tomorrow. I am a labor and delivery nurse and a midwife. I am struggling with a very out of control type 2 diabetes and am hoping to get myself to the point where I can get rid of these nasty medications that make me feel like crap, make me gain weight, and according to the latest news, increase my risk of heart disease. I am somewhat perplexed, though, as to how one can eat raw and still treat the diabetes. Fruit seems to be very prevalent in all the raw food books I've seen, the diet seems to be very high in carbohydrates, which is what diabetics can't assimilate. So, I'd be very interested in hearing from anyone who has managed a raw food diet and diabetes.
