Naked Juice

Hello all! I'm wondering if Naked juice is really considered raw. I've heard that it's wonderful and has no preservatives or sugars added. Is this correct? Would it be ok to incorporate in my raw diet? I've also seen something called Green Juice at Trader Joe's. Is that raw?

Thanks in advance!

Never heard of Naked Juice or Green Juice, but generally, anything in a bottle has to be pasteurized (high heat) to stay on a shelf any amount of time. Anything that is fresh has to have a date on it and usually has warnings on it that it hasn't been pasteurized, has to be refrigerated constantly and even is a risk. That's the way it works I'm afraid. I seriously doubt that any juice on Trader Joe's shelves is fresh squeezed. Maybe one day!

I was wondering about naked juice as well. It is kept in the refigerated section of the produce dept in the grocery stores here. And it does have an expiration date. But I don't recall it having a warning that it has not been pasteurized. I will make sure to check.

A lot of those juices, such as the Naked and Odwalla brands seen in the produce areas may say they've been "flash" pasteurized which is just a new fangled term for having all the life cooked out of them quickly, perhaps they weren't heated as long as the other bottled juices on the shelves, but they were still heated high enough to kill the bacteria so the company can't be held liable for any illnesses or reactions *supposedly* caused by fresh juices.

On this topic I went to my fav restaurant about a year or two ago and they had "fesh squeezed juice". I asked more about it. They said sure it wasn't heated because they paid so much for it. I asked if I could see the bottle. Of course it was "flash pasteurized". I sadly informed them that "fresh squeezed" no longer actually means that much like "raw almonds" are no longer raw. They can call anything anything unless there is a specific law that they can't and there are scarce few laws to protect us healthy ones. They took down their big sign that said they had fresh squeezed oj.

There is a company here that does sell real raw fresh squeezed oj and they make that very very clear on the bottle as any company would because it is unbelievably rare and precious. If it's raw - they will say it. If they don't say it's raw or unpasteurized it definitely isn't. If it does say raw, well, then it MIGHT be.
