Just getting started!

Hello to all,
I have been all over the internet learning about eating raw. I've got alot of good info, but few recipes or instructions on how to prepare.
Knowing myself as I do, I am going to try to start gradually and work my way into a new way of eating. I have tried many diets and fads and they don't work. I am left feeling tired (or wired!) and not any healthier. This is the first thing that seems to make perfect sense.
Can anyone recommend a good cookbook to start off with?
Thanks in advance for any info,

Kathy

Hi!

I just bought Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods by Renee Loux Underkoffler. I'm a newbie too, so I haven't tried them yet, but there are tons and they look really easy.

i am just gradually trying to add raw to my diet and i have found Ani Phyos "ani's raw food kitchen" book wonderful and not at all overwhelming. the ingredients aren't too lengthy and her raw donuts are awesome!!

I really like the book Rawsome! by Brigitte Mars as it not only has recipes and talks about why one should be raw, but provides a lot of information about how to get our nutritional needs met through food.

I believe it's VERY IMPORTANT to figure out how to get proper nutrition. I mean, it's all available in produce, but we need to be sure we're eating all of the right things to get the balanced nutrition we need for our health.

In terms of getting started, make it easy! Start by adding a raw salad or soup to each meal (eat your raw food before any cooked food), and then perhaps start with a smoothie for breakfast.

Once a week or so, try a new raw recipe, and then try to have at least one raw food meal a week. Gradually increase that, and in a couple months, you'll be fully transitioned with a bunch of recipes you like.

And it CAN be really easy - I love my nut pates (for things like falafel and rawvioli, or a small amount on my veggie wraps), but mostly I eat salads (even for breakfast) and have whole fruit for snacks. I use a blender for salad dressings and occasional smoothies, and my food processor for occasional pates and the like, but mostly I just use a knife and cutting board.

I am another newbie that just bought Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods. About one half the book is comprehensive information and the balance is receipes. I had ordered a slew of books to read on raw foods, but this is one of my few "keepers".

I am fortunate that I live near Kimberton, PA where there's an organic market that sells Awesome Foods prepared raw foods. (Google the company, they have a web site.) So I can pick up pre-made raw entrees, crackers, tempuraw, etc. for a quick snack or meal.

I also go to the grocery store hungry so I can determine what I have a craving/taste for.

Thankfully, spring is here in PA and soon I will be able to start going to the local farmers markets on weekends for incredibly fresh organic vegetables.

Good luck on your adventure. My diet is now 90% raw and I feel amazing! (I haven't felt this way in years). : )
