Question I'm new to raw and I'm alcoholic.

I have just started the raw life I want to go 100%, but I'm having a hard time because I miss my carbs. Any one with ideas please help me.

Thank you for sharing your post, I know that it's a difficult thing to share with others. My father is an alcoholic and my father-in-law is an ex-alcoholic.

Are you still drinking alcohol? I'm asking because I would hate for going raw to be a bad experience for you. I would suggest that you get that under control before going 100% raw. You can really damage yourself if you're still heavily drinking and at the same time time eating well. The alcohol will have a greater effect on your body.

It's like a few weeks ago I broke my diet and had some cookies. I used to be able to down a box of those puppies easy! But I have a couple and I get a migraine. Same thing with my husband, he had chocolates the other day and not very many and it gave him a headache. So it will be the same when you're eating raw and drinking.

But we're totally supportive of you here for going on a raw diet, I think that you're definately heading in the right direction.

Mymy, didn't want to just leave you in the dark... so I looked up a couple web sources that will give you some more info if you haven't already looked.

This site has a short explanation of your carving for carbs/sugars, question#2:

Alcohol Detox Info
http://www.e-detoxification.com/Alco...ification.html
http://www.detoxhub.com/Alcoholism-detox.php

"There are a lot of aspects to alcoholism detox. One of the most important ones is the medical aspect. The professional medical help is a must in the alcoholism detox process. A doctor should be assisting the patient throughout the entire detox treatment."

This next link sheds some light on being able to detox and aid in the process of becoming less addicted by using the raw diet.
http://www.webhealthcentre.com/altme...iving_food.asp
" Naturopaths have found that uncooked food can successfully cure resistant illnesses such as heart diseases, hypertension, kidney and blood diseases, alcoholism and arthritis"

This is an interview with a man that was an alcoholic and now eats raw food and doesn't drink, I think you may find it interesting.

Hey mymy,

I'd like to welcome you to the site too and applaud your stepping up to take control of you life and to treat your body well.

Snowbunny is extremely knowledgable and should be a tremendous resource for you. If she says it's important to be under medical supervision when going off of alcholol I would prick up my ears and listen.

I can attest that what she said about being more sensitive to things that are bad for you when you go all raw is absolutely true. I've gone all raw more times than I can count in the last 20 years and always I get extremely sensitive when all raw. She is probably right about dealing with the alcohol if you haven't already before attempting to go all raw.

You know, I have heard that alcoholics that have given up the alcohol often transfer that physical addiction to sweets and carbos. You're probably having biochemical reaction to giving up alcohol that helps to create the craving. Alcohol affects the blood sugars radically. Did you know that fruits and veggies are classified as carbos too! Your body does need carbos and sugars but the whole raw and healthy kind). What I would think might work to help your transition would be to drink smoothies with fruit, bananas and lots of nut butter (some people here that have high powered blenders advocate putting in some greens too). If you can't make your own nutbutters with soaking, dehydrating and mashing, I would use fresh roasted nutbutters with no extra oil added - and use lots of it in your smoothies. This will help you get that sugar/carbo fix met along with enough fat and protein to help keep your blood sugars stable. Someone else has suggested that lots of greens would be really good for protein - but no matter what greens will help heal you. I've heard it said that fruit is food and greens are medicine. After what your body has been through you will be needing some healing and rebuilding.

Speaking of healing - there is an herb called Milk Thistle that can restore liver damage. Definitely something to look into.

Once again, welcome and best of luck!
