hello

Hello everyone,
I'm new to the raw food movement, although I've been a believer for a long time. what can be better than eating food right off the vine? yum. In the summer, we grow a garden with lots of tomatoes and peppers, it's my favorite time of year. However, I live in chicago, so I have to buy all my veg. they're never as good. I'm glad to join a community that has more information and recipes for raw meals, I'd like to make a change over to eventually become completely raw.
I was also wondering if anyone knows how to quickly seed a pomegranate? It's taking me forever. Mixing raw pomegranate with orange juice is fantastic I suggest everyone try it! it's worth the trouble.

I have been craving pomegranate. Are you talking about blending the pomegranate, or juicing it? I would think you could just take off the outside skin. The white connective stuff can be eaten, just like the white membrane in an orange, and you could throw the whole thing into a blender or cut in half or 1/4, for a juicer.

I was doing a lot of grapefruit juice and pomegranate juice together. I do not like the white inner pith myself. This is what I do:

If you are juicing it, doesn't the juicer remove all the pith, skin and pulp?

Probably but it would leave a bitter taste. Have you ever juiced whole oranges?

I juice them by hand. I've been pulling out the pith (i find it to be bitter) and then put the seeds in a glass, and then muddle it, and then strain it, and then juice the oranges. I don't like to use the electric juicer for fruit, I'm trying to cut down on energy consumption. anyhoo, it takes me forever. but still delicious!

Weird

Actually I have juiced oranges with the pith , oh, not whole oranges. Although I do like kumquats. The white orange stuff is actually a good source of vitamin K, I believe? Don't know about pomegranate pith, but oranges I peel with a knife and leave some of the white stuff on the oranges. There are people like during the potato famine that survived just because they were the ones peeling and they ate some of the skin which gave them nutrients to live. I really care more about health then taste and can tolerate things like dandelion greens and wheatgrass, that turn some peoples stomachs.

I'm all about the taste myself. When starting raw, I didn't know that fruit was the best thing to eat. I did a lot of sprouting and fermenting and made a lot of horrible tasting things, forcing them down because I felt they were good for me so I shouldn't waste! Now I follow my pallete and eat what looks and tastes good to me. Since we are not in the middle of a famine I'm not going to force myself to eat peels or pith - but it's nice to know should I ever find myself in that kind of situation!

When I was big into juicing my pom seeds, I actually didn't get as much juice as I was hoping, as I use a basket style juicer which does a better job at big hard things like carrots & apples. So a lot of the precious juice did end up getting wasted.

However, recently I thought to line the pulp basket with a nut milk bag so that I could squeeze out the extra juice.

The main thing we juice is carrots and apples, so we are happy with the juicer, but for the ocassional different fruit or veggie, we don't get the best results.

Also we use a citrus juicer for all our citrus.

One time I juiced whole lemons through the juice extractor to make lemonade for the kids and it was very bitter - really dissapointing.
