bizarre question, is there any safe way to eat raw insects?

i am a strong believer of the ape diet which includes 60-70% fruit, 20-35% veggies, nuts, and seeds and 5-10% insects and other meat. i choose to start eating insects instead of other meats and fish because i personally feel that they are much healthier and easy to home raise. i want to start eating them raw but not get any parasites and dont know what to do to kill the parasites without cooking them. will freezing them work? for how long and what temperature? since i am not adapted to eating raw insects, i will not be as immune to parasites as the apes are. you are free to give me your opinions and i will respect them and may follow them and forget this whole insect thing and stay vegan.

I understand what you're saying about the ape diet and respect that. And if one was to choose an animal product to consume, consuming insects from the area has the potential to have less of an negative impact on the planet.

My first thought is that we're not apes, and while we're similar, we're not genetically identical, so I believe we have slightly different needs. Also, we have the ability to plant, to ship, to trade, so we can get a much wider variety of produce than can many animals, who are very dependent upon what is "naturally" planted and growing.

My second concern would be what impact would the insects you are eating have on the local environment? As an example, recently bees have been on a decline - eating bees then will reduce the overall population, affecting all kinds of plants, trees, produce, our lives in general. What other insects might you be eating and how might that affect our world?

I frankly do not know, but I think it's something to really think about, as insects are incredibly pivotal to our survival. For instance, the bees that pollinate the orchids that make saffron are now extinct, and the flowers have to be pollinated by hand. Almonds are more difficult to get as there aren't enough bees to pollinate all the trees. How would we get our strawberries and pea pods without insects doing their "happy dance" on the flowers? What about earthworms making the soil loose and fluffy so plants have an easier time digging their roots deep into the earth?

I am not against anyone eating any kind of animal, I just think it should be done in an educated, well-informed, way, with minimal abuse and stress to the animal, minimal impact on the environment.

Personally, I don't want to eat any animal product, or anything that has a large negative impact on the environment. For instance, recently I read that huge areas of the rainforest are being cut down for, not beef now, but soybeans! Most of those are going to Europe, but still - it's something to think about in our global economy.

I now know it's ENTIRELY possible to get ALL of our nutritional needs met from the plant kingdom: fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, sea vegetables, nut and seed oils. I am committed to making my life be 100% nutritionally balanced and 100% vegan raw.

Are there moments I'm not now? Sure, but I'm learning, figuring things out, and am looking at my impact on our world (and the people around me) for the next 60 years of my life.

So, I cannot directly answer your question, but those are my thoughts, FWIW.

you cannot get vitamin B12 from plant sources, you can only get it from animal sources or pills. i know that b12 comes from bacteria that are in the meat. but what other natural sources do we get our vitamin 12? genetically, humans are so closly related to chimps and chimps eat meat, which is mostly insects. that is 5-10% of their diet. i dont want to pop b12 pills anymore as i am still vegan.

Actually, you can get B-12 from entirely vegan sources!

It is found in:
Alfalfa leaves
Barley grass
Bee pollen
Comfrey Leaves
Concord grapes and raisins
Ginseng
Hops
Miso (unpasturized)
Mustard Greens
Nutritional Yeast
Plums and Prunes
Sauerkraut (unpasturized)
Seaweeds (especially kelp and nori)
Spirulina
Sprouts (all)
Yogurt
Wheatgrass

I eat 1T of the superfood Pure Synergy daily, which has a tremendous amount of B-12. I just read the jar and it says 1T has 185% of the RDA of B-12. All vegan.

What insects would you like to eat? I can't think of any I would like raw! In the past I have eaten fried flying ants, delicious yes, but won't ever touch them again, because I can't think of eating them raw. People out here eat caterpillars, but only cooked. You may get tiny insects by not washing your produce?
