hey people

Whats up guys,
Ive decided to give up all processed foods for lent so I am going on a 30 day raw food thing and hopefully make it longer then that. Are there any guides to a 30 day thing. Right now I just plan on eating carrots and salads, some fruit, and protein shakes. I am also curious, What do beer and cigs qualify in the raw food diet?

Hey guys, I appreciate any help

thanks

mike

Beer and tobacco are not a food, nor a fresh food at that.

Curious why you wouldn't give those up for lent?

Anything that has been cooked, roasted, canned, boiled, bottled, simmered, grilled, fried, poached, toasted, steamed, lit on fire, distilled, brewed, pasterurized, heated above 118 degrees, processed and packaged, etc. is not optimal and 99% of the time not raw.

If you can concentrated on lots of fruit, vegetables & salads you will do great. Eat whatever looks good to you and is fresh and in season and you'll feel wonderful.

Best of luck to you... It sounds like you're looking at giving up a lot all at once. Processed foods, beer, cigs- all are worthy of giving up, but if you try to do too much too soon it may be pretty tought to maintain.

The diet you're planning sounds good, but I'd encourage you to add some good raw fat in the form of whole foods- nuts, avacados, olive oil. I also enjoy raw cheese (organically raised, of course), and I indulge in organic wine as well.

Best of luck, keep us posted!

There are optimal and non-optimal foods but what is "allowed" is entirely up to you. You have to set your own pace on what you find acceptable in your own diet.

That said, sushi containing fish and rice wouldn't be optimal on a raw, vegan diet. However, there are plenty of raw sushi recipes using raw, untoasted nori and different plant foods as fillings.

Hey Toadstyle. this is so cool. I was initially just planning on giving up BREAD for Lent ("Man does not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of Jesus" and all that) but actually ending up starting a raw diet LAST Sunday. It's been 7 days and 7 pounds. (I'm really fat and am hoping to lose about 80 pounds -- probably won't end when Lent does either).

So far I feel great and am eating TONS of healthy food. Let's help each other out with this thing, OK? It's neat to find someone else doing the same thing . . .
