I am nervous about going back home to CA and not being able to eat Mexican and El Salvadorian food. I miss them so much!!

Oooh tamales, papusas, burritos, enchiladas, flan, yum. Only Spanish flan. Awww )=

Okay Bornagain, Can you do me a favor - when you find good tasty recipes can you send them this way? Thanks.

NTB - bravo to you and your love for cooking.

I use to think I love cooking and when Yin Can Cook, Julia Child and the Pros before foodnetwork came along, I learned I LOVE watching people cook and creating concoctions and eating or dream about eating what they cook on tv.

But since being raw I don't mind being in the kitchen making my meals. I don't feel like it is a chore anymore.

I think part of the solution for me has been that healthy feels better than most anything ever tastes. So it's not worth the tradeoff. In everything that we do, we are motivated by getting something out of it. I'm not talking about being selfish, I'm talking about basic human nature and the power of free will. We work because it's how we pay the bills and survive in this world. Many of us love the work that we do, and that's great, but would you still keep doing it for half the pay? Probably not. Why? Because it wouldn't be worth the tradeoff. It's the same thing no matter what you are talking about. When food is counterproductive to your goal (assuming you have a goal and know what to do to accomplish it) then you are far less likely to eat that food. This thread started out as a friend rant, and I'm going to go back to that for a minute. When our friends (or any relationship) is more labor intensive than it should be, we do one of two things. We either try to make it what we want it to be (usually doesn't work) or we cut our losses and move on. I have a friend who recently made some choices not to be supportive through some difficult things i was going through. While I love her and we've been friends for a long time, I am all done with that friendship. Doesn't mean I hate her, just means I only have so much energy in a day and there isn't room for things that are counterproductive to my goals. So if she calls me tomorrow and says "hey, I need your help" then I probably won't extend myself too far to help her. Not because I am mad, but because she has now proven herself to be less than a good friend. By the way this is more than just a small incident, it's not like I'm cutting her off because of a small dispute. Anyway, whether it's jobs or friends or food or whatever, you have to decide what you are going to devote your energy to. As far as eating cooked or SAD food, we probably all falter in some ways once in awhile because we are human. This is a journey we should be making, hopefully getting better at things every day. So I measure my success in life as daily improvements. Did i learn something today? Did I choose one thing to eat today that was a better choice than yesterday? Have I made a positive impact in my work life? Did i make my kids smile today?

Ok, reading through this, I guess it sounds like I'm ona soapbox, I hope it doesn't come through that way. I just wanted to share my perspective.... and I figured this would make sense to you folks here because it sounds like you all have pretty healthy approaches to life.

Time to go enjoy the sunshine!!!!

We are heading to the beach with smoothies in the cooler and good books in our hands

Raw Food Restaurants

Hey Anisha... Since you're coming out to Cali, check out a raw food restaurant if you don't have one by you. If you're in San Francisco or Berkely and there's one opening in LA or already opened... called Cafe Gratitude, that's the restaurant with enchiladas and that's were I bought my favorite uncook book made by the owners.

There's other restaurants too scattered, generally along the coast. Have a great trip!

Glad to know I'm in good company here with like-minded individuals!

By the way, the beach was glorious today! And we are getting a beautiful breeze off the ocean tonight, great sleeping weather!

Time for dessert, I'm trying some frozen bananas with cacao bits in it. Supposedly you can whip it up like ice cream.... we'll see!

Hey Melissa - we're all on the same page fer sure. You expressed it quite well.

Banana icecream is the best. Peel the bananas, break them into pieces, put them in a plastic bag and freeze them. Then you put it through your machinery to whip it up into icecream. The first choice is a champion juicer with the blank in, second is food processor and third is a vitamix.

If you want to make the best desert on the planet eat the icecream with a hot apple pie out of the dehydrator. I made up my own recipe for the pie when I first started out - but I'm sure there are recipes out there.

I do miss the beach here in Texas. I've never lived this far from a beach before. Say hi to the waves for me.

It was really good! I whipped it up in my little hand chopper because it's what i had, and it worked great. The apple pie sounds awesome! I'll have to try that too.

The waves were really awesome, and I got a lot of creative writing done, some stuff that wasn't coming to me for awhile before that.

Thanks again

I tried the banana and cocoa powder thing too, except not in ice cream form. I froze the banana, then let it thraw and mushed it up with cocoa powder yum!

Also, today was the first day in awhile that I was 100% raw. I am excited and proud of myself. I feel really good. Hopefully I won't fall off the horse again, cause it took to long to get back on.

Congrats Anisha! A totally raw day is totally awesome I think I've done it once or twice, but that's it so far. What did you eat?

Great accomplishment, thanks for sharing it with us.
