I think part of the solution for me has been that healthy feels better than most anything ever tastes. So it's not worth the tradeoff. In everything that we do, we are motivated by getting something out of it. I'm not talking about being selfish, I'm talking about basic human nature and the power of free will. We work because it's how we pay the bills and survive in this world. Many of us love the work that we do, and that's great, but would you still keep doing it for half the pay? Probably not. Why? Because it wouldn't be worth the tradeoff. It's the same thing no matter what you are talking about. When food is counterproductive to your goal (assuming you have a goal and know what to do to accomplish it) then you are far less likely to eat that food. This thread started out as a friend rant, and I'm going to go back to that for a minute. When our friends (or any relationship) is more labor intensive than it should be, we do one of two things. We either try to make it what we want it to be (usually doesn't work) or we cut our losses and move on. I have a friend who recently made some choices not to be supportive through some difficult things i was going through. While I love her and we've been friends for a long time, I am all done with that friendship. Doesn't mean I hate her, just means I only have so much energy in a day and there isn't room for things that are counterproductive to my goals. So if she calls me tomorrow and says "hey, I need your help" then I probably won't extend myself too far to help her. Not because I am mad, but because she has now proven herself to be less than a good friend. By the way this is more than just a small incident, it's not like I'm cutting her off because of a small dispute. Anyway, whether it's jobs or friends or food or whatever, you have to decide what you are going to devote your energy to. As far as eating cooked or SAD food, we probably all falter in some ways once in awhile because we are human. This is a journey we should be making, hopefully getting better at things every day. So I measure my success in life as daily improvements. Did i learn something today? Did I choose one thing to eat today that was a better choice than yesterday? Have I made a positive impact in my work life? Did i make my kids smile today?
Ok, reading through this, I guess it sounds like I'm ona soapbox, I hope it doesn't come through that way. I just wanted to share my perspective.... and I figured this would make sense to you folks here because it sounds like you all have pretty healthy approaches to life.
Time to go enjoy the sunshine!!!!
We are heading to the beach with smoothies in the cooler and good books in our hands
