You mean to say NTB that you actually cook for your family still?! Nobody gets anything from me that isn't raw - but they can have whatever I'm having and as much as they like - that's my version of generosity. I actually did what you are doing for a short time but decided to stop. Maybe when they start preparing me gourmet raw foods I'll think about making them things. You must really have your addictions under control to do what you do. I mean that would be like an alcoholic being the bartender or an ex-smoker handing out cigarrettes if you didn't. I'm not that strong and even if I were, I still don't think I'd do it. It just seems cruel to have to make other people something I don't eat. When I did it it was also hard because I couldn't taste the food to make sure it was good or the seasonings were right - which was very difficult. How long have you been doing this?

NTB, I agree with Greenbunny, but more power to you. Wow I don't think I would ever do that. And plus eating raw should get me out of learning how to cook the conventional way, since I won't be eating it.

Greenbunny, I have met some really really experienced cooks that never have to taste the food to make sure whether it tastes right. My mom and some of my aunts are vegetarians and when they cook meat for their family they don't taste the food. Cool isn't it....in some ways.

Well maybe my argument won't get me out of learning how to cook conventionally. hmmm....i will have to work on this...

When I was a kid I used to leave dirt on the dishes when I was forced to wash them in order to not have to wash them again. Maybe not having skill to cook without tasting could be a benefit? Sorry, can't do that, can't taste the food, don't have that skill!

If I were NTB and people made too much of a fuss about me not wanting to cook anymore, I'd have to admit that my strategy would probably become making the cooked foods slowly taste worse and worse and then slipping in some really yummy raw foods instead.

But I'm not NTB so no one ever gets the cooked food anyway. I love the word, "no!"

To give NTB the benefit of the doubt here, she might really enjoy doing it - in which case - all the more power to ya!

I totally agree with them. My circle of friends and coworkers all know my for my brownies so I made them once while being raw... There's no way that I can resist! They smell up the entire house and they're gooey and they get on my fingers when I'm making them...

So now I made raw desserts and dips and they never know the difference! And I can munch all I want while I'm making them, I'm just a big kid in the kitchen... wants to lick everything clean!!

So I'm with Greenbunny and Anisha... way to go doing that for your family

heehee just thought about the first time I made a raw dinner for my mum...

She loves to eat veggies and wants to eat healthy, but always cooks her food. So I made her one of my favorite dishes... lasagne. I told her it was raw (which I won't do to anyone again) and her response in her british accent was "oh... well... um... can I cook it? I think I'd rather have mine cooked!"

Nuts Great Learning Experience

Thanks to my vegan brother and when we use to live together, he would bring home vegan goodies and I would change my banana nut bread recipe to be vegan-friendly....I told people it was vegan and they responded, "Oh....really? Um thanks, but no thanks."

So I never told them anymore until after they finished their plate and
I would ask, "Did you really like it?"
and their response was, "Yeah Anisha, it was delicious!"
I would respond, "Good, so now you know how delicious vegan-friendly desserts can be!!"
and they would respond: Jaws dropped for hours in disbelief that this angel gave them something vegan to eat and it was good.

It's not like I tricked them or anything, I am 100% innocent.

Smile unsupportive family

Anisha, Hi! bornagain. I have a family who basicly laughs at me. They won"t even try the foods I make. It really upsets me but I just don"t let it bother me, because one day they will see for themselves when there sick with colds, flu ect.... I hardly ever see my naturalpath.{they laugh at that too] thats ok. They can sit and eat ther fastfood, processed food, their sweets loaded with sugar, their high blood sugar and chlosteral ect...... I've been their. I've been eating organic for 3-years now and I feel good. I feel even better eating raw. So as for your friends, I say be an example to them, just smile keep on doing what your ding and prove them wrong. That to me is the best way because I 've always believed what goes around comes around, they'll be eating their word one day. So smile and hang in there.

I love when I hang out with my sick friends and family on days that everyone is sick and they're just astonished that I don't get sick. I tell them why and they'll even say something along the lines of it's because I eat so well and then they'll say how they can't do it because of this and that and end with "I just don't know how you don't get sick"!!! It always makes me laugh because, HELLO you just said why I'm not getting sick... and then they convinced themselves that because they couldn't possibly take on this lifestyle and therefor it must just be a miracle or the way my body was made that keeps me from getting sick....

Anisha... it's so funny that people feel like they've been poisoned when they eat yummy healthy food!!

I know its weird...the poison thing.

But when I was a kid on processed food I definitely believed it...and now I drink beet juice plain. What a 360 turn!

Yeah I too am a firm believer of what goes around comes around.

Wow, interesting thread! First, I do love to cook. I might not do it as much in the future, but right now, I still cook. Then again, my family is really good about eating what I cook, or don't cook, no matter what. They also enjoy raw foods, and hopefully they will make some gradual changes as well. As far as my extended family, I'm certainly not going to push my own changes on them. I really still love to cook, and it isn't a problem for me. Once in awhile, I get an urge, but for the most part, it's not a problem for me. I'm perfectly happy with my raw pina colada while the kids eat strawberry shortcake. I'll probably continue to increase the raw foods that I offer, and hopefully they will make better and better choices for themselves too. My boyfriend is pretty picky about his food, but I don't mind cooking whatever he wants, it's all pretty simple for me, and I truly enjoy it. Besides, cooking is really my entire contribution to our relationship. He does the cleaning, laundry, waits on me hand and foot.

Anyway, I don't see cooking for my family as a sacrifice or burden, I do it pretty happily, and their diets also tend to be far better than the average population. We all do the best we can with what we have and what we know at any given time!
