Suggestions for Raw Books

Hi all!

I am just entering into the raw world and I love books and love to read, so, can you guys recommend some good books? I already have Green for Life, Raw Food Made Easy for 1 or 2 People, The Raw Food Detox Diet, and Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine.

I was thinking of David Wolfe's The Sunfood Diet Success System, Living Cuisine: The Art and Spirit of Raw Foods by Renee Loux Underkoffler as well as Alissa Cohen's Living on Live Food.

It's funny, when you read the reviews on Amazon and they are mostly good, then you get those few really crappy reviews and you just don't know who to believe! Anyway, I pretty much understand the philospophy, but am looking for more practical knowledge and definitely recipes--ones that aren't geared for an experienced chef. At least not at this point yet!

So, any other suggestions--I've heard many of you like books as well.

Thanks!

It all depends on what you are looking for. If you are wanting a lot of recipes and gourmet stuff, Alissa Cohen's book is great.

If you are looking for books on healing on raw and sound dietary information, I'd go straight to Dr. Douglas Graham's 80/10/10 book.

Also a great book, is The China Study which will give you an awesome foundation of the scientific proof behind a plant based diet.

I have heard good things about Paul Nissan's books too, although haven't read any personally.

The Raw Secrets by Frederic Pautanade is another gem. I have the book, and not sure if it's available now in hardcopy, but he does sell the e-book from his sight. It is excellent.

Also some great books by any of the founding fathers of raw and natural hygiene such as Herbert Shelton and T. C. Fry might be of interest to you.

Hey, thanks for the suggestions. Yes, I guess I'm looking mainly for recipe type books, although I do like any thing relating to the philosophy and benefits of raw eating--but to me, that is almost obvious.

What I need the most help with is just how to go about eating raw and making the change, things like that. I think I have some good ideas and I do have some to start out with already. Some of the ones suggested are already on my wish list at Amazon, so I'll just go ahead and press the "add to cart button!"

Thanks!

I'll chime in here too. I only have 3 raw books, and I really like all of them. The first one I bought was Raw Food, Real World. I loved the fact that it looked like a "regular" cookbook I guess. I have literally a hundred or more cookbooks. That doesn't count books on healing and other dietary based books, just cookbooks. Anyway, I like it, but it is a little bit extensive in terms of a lot of the recipes. I haven't made the more complicated ones yet. There are great photos and information, and it was very inspirational for me.

Then I bought Raw Food that was mentioned above, and I like that as well. Lots of good info. Last week I bought RawSome. It's also good, and has different information than the others, like what foods have what properties, etc.

Right now I use them all, they are great!

I transitioned about two years ago and read Frederic Patenaude's books, "The Raw Secrets, Instant Raw Sensations, and Soups, Salads, and Smoothies." They are all written straightforward and helped me understand some of the problems I had encountered. I've started simplifying my diet to fruits and veggies and lots of water which I think is paying off.

I just got Celebrating our Raw Nature, Plant-based Living Cuisine by Dorit. i am excited to try a few recipes out of this one. There quite a few salads and appetizers I want to try on my family. I will get them over to this side, I will. (ha-ha) Actually they have been quite receptive to my plan and have tried quite a few things. It's just a matter of experimenting and taste.

I love Ani's Raw Food Kitchen. The author obviously likes to have herself photographed while eating, but it's a well-laid out book with lots to read and lots of delicious, easy recipes. Her Shitake-Miso soup is absolutely amazing -- even without the full cup of olive oil she uses. (I used only 2 TB of good, flavorful olive oil)
