Nuts UH-OH please help.... carrot problem

Hey guys, just a quick question, i just ate raw carrot with its skin intact... ofcourse i washed it, but i wasnt aware that the skin could have been contaminated or had some sort of bacteria on it until after i finished eating the whole thing i've read that eating carrot without its skin peeled is much more nutritionous which was why i ate it raw without peeling the skin, but then i remembered that it was boiled or steamed carrot which should be eaten with its skin because the heat kills all the germs...... so please tell me... is it harmful or health risky in any way at all to eat raw carrot with its skin?

Please tell me soon.. my stomach is beginning to feel funny!
Thanks heaps

Amused

I've never heard of bacteria on carrot skins that will make you sick. I was reading "Leaving carrot skin on also increases antioxidant availability" that's from this website (nutricentre.com). I used to eat about 2 lbs of organic carrots a day with the skin a never had a problem.

It may be in your head that your stomach is beginning to feel funny! Sometimes when I eat something I know I'm not supposed to I'll get the same thing because I'm "supposed" to get sick from it. Kind of like when you skipped school as a kid because you're "sick" and then you actually start to feel sick. Not that I ever did that...

Plus, it sounded like you just ate ONE carrot.... I think you'll be ok!!

ditto
and also keep in mind, if the carrot (or any other vegetable with edible skins) is organic, it IS better for you WITH the skin on.
peace

If you are 100% raw and have been for some time and have always peeled your carrots you might (a long shot) be reacting to the skin in some strange way - but carrot skins are very edible - like apple skins. The thing is that if you are all raw, the skins do have enzyme inhibitors in them. If you are unbelievably sensitive, or you are coming off a long fast you could always take an enzyme to help with the digestion of said carrot. If by some freak of nature or some bad handling there was something on that carrot that you missed with your washing.... perhaps pesticide if not organic.... then I would drink some ginger or peppermint tea to settle the tummy's reaction. If you start to feel very bad, a sip of coffee or even smelling coffee can counteract many poisons.

Now that you have heard the paranoid response....

You most likely are getting upset with unnecessary worry and it's upseetting your tummy. So, maybe some peppermint or chammomile tea will settle you nerves and help anyway. Either way, my answer would be... tea to the rescue.
