i'm having difficulty enjoying soaked foods

since i heard that nuts seeds and grains have phytic acid i decided that i shall soak them before i eat them. i usually soak quinoa and sesame seeds overnight for a hurried breakfast the next morning. my problem is that i am having difficulty dealing with the unappetizing taste and texture of the quinoa and sesame seeds. what should i do to make them more appetizing. what makes soaked nuts and seeds more appetizing.

You can either get used to them or just don't soak at all. Some people re-dehydrate soaked nuts and seeds, I am not convinced that it improves the digestibility, but you can try.

If you are new to raw, please don't feel over-obligated to follow all the rules that a seasoned raw foodist would use. I enjoy soaked almonds now but they were weird at first. You don't have to soak anything if you don't want to.

On second glance at your post, I see you are eating quinoa. That would have a really strong flavor whatever you do to it, unless it was outright cooked. I've tried sprouting it before and the smell just about knocked me out.

Are you opposed to eating fruit in the morning? We usually start off the day with a green or fruit smoothie. This morning we are having:

1 cup OJ
3 ripe bananas
1/4 pineapple w/core

(blended down)

1 cup mango (frozen)
2 tbs hemp seeds
big pinch dulse flakes
ice

Blended until smooth

We vary it day to day - lots of times I will put a couple handfuls of baby spinach into it.

i tried to find a method to make soaked sunflower seeds more appetizing by adding raisins which are surprisingly delicious when soaked and cinnamon. it was really yummy i was surprised. however for the quinoa, i still see potential with that and the taste is not as bad as the texture. what seasonings go good with soaked sesame seeds and or quinoa. in the morning i don't like to eat fruit because it makes me hungry, my breakfast needs to be protein based, i try to eat mostly fruit during my other meals though. i love fruit!! i so wish that i could live primarily off of fruit but it really stinks that i can get malnutrition by being a frugivore or fruitarian.

Hi Mallory,

There's an excellent video on protein I'll have to find and post here, it is very informative on protein. It is floating around here somewhere!

If you're looking for something with crunch to add to your breakfast, try making Buckwheat Crispies. Soak a pound of buckwheat overnight in LOTS of water and rinse well in the morning. Dehydrate for 3-6 hours. They will keep for several months and are WAY better than Rice Krispies. (Buckwheat is not related to wheat -- in case you're gluten sensitive)
