I feed my dogs raw food - meat. I had the same concern about parasites. I spoke to my vet about it and his response was that dogs' digestive systems have never been bred to be any different than wolves. Dogs have been bred for floppy ears, fur, certain behavior traits - but not to do better on cooked foods. Wolves are designed to eat meat and their digestive systems are designed to destroy parasites. A wolf (or dog) can bury a raw bone in the ground for a month, go back to it, and chew away as if it was fresh meat with no harmful effects. My previously sick, elderly little Maltese is like a new dog going raw. We are designed to eat raw fruits and veggies and eating raw meat is deadly to us. Likewise, feeding your dog too much raw veggies is bad for them. Their veggies have to be ground up. Parasites are a concern for us - not for dogs.
I'd be happy to share more about how I feed my doggies if you wish. It will be so wonderful to start your puppy off right and it will be great to have a raw food doggie pal here!
