Raw baby doesn't like raw food. What can I do?

My sister decided to raise her baby raw - as she was also trying this herself.

Unfortunately, her 8 month old baby doesn't like most of the meals she prepares (mashed banana, melon, cucumber, apple or avocado only) and her baby has actually lost a considerable amount of weight because my sister refuses to budge from wanting her baby to be raw due to not having had her immunised so wanting her immune system to be in tip top condition.

She now turns away as soon as a spoon is produced, after several meals she really REALLY didn't like.

If the baby wont eat the meal, my sisters then just leaves it till next meal time to try again. The baby is clearly hungry and her behaviour and general happiness is rapidly deteriorating. In addition my sister's weight has plummeted on the raw diet and she now looks grey, skeletal and is very irritable. I'm sure if worked properly a 100% raw veggie vegan diet can be very successful - but I don't believe this is the case here and so I need your help as to what to do.

My Mum and I look after the baby regularly. Are there any meals you could suggest we could give her that don't go against my sisters wishes but might give her the vital nutrition and bulk she needs? We don't want to resort to good old baby rusk and rice but as we don't follow the diet ourselves we don't know where to start.

i've heard from raw vegan mamas that young coconut water is amazing for babies, very similar to breast milk, its an electrolyte fluid with the same PH balance as our blood. just crack open a young coconut (white ones with cone shaped tops), bottle it for her, and she might like that.
your sister might want to get more greens which will help stabilize her weight.

best of luck

Here are a few books for raw babies and children. There is a chapter in Gabriel Cousens book, “Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine” called Raising Rainbow Babies. Also a little book called “Baby Greens: A Live-Food Approach for Children of All Ages” by Michaela Lynn and Michael Chrisemer

Here's a few recipes I found online that you can try...

You can use coconut milk in this one like Elizabeth suggests.

This one is basic, but theres some good suggestions if your read the postings
http://goneraw.com/recipes/1033-Baby...er-s-breakfast

There's other veggies that can be put into a baby processor. There's actually food processors for baby food that will make it mushy. So you can try zuchini, carrots, all kinds of things. How about other fruits?

here's a forum I found about raw babies. http://goneraw.com/forums/3/topics/1417
There is mention on there from one woman who tried feeding her baby raw food and she mainly just wanted to breastfeed.

Two more things.. some recipes may call for nuts or nut millk, just be ware that nuts can be an allergen

You can also juice to get the babies nutrients. Just water it down with breast milk or coconut milk a lot because of the sugar content in fruit and same in some veggies.

I give my little one green smoothies, which have all the essential amino acids (protein), and i throw in some hemp seeds (teaspoon) which assures that he gets some fat, protein, omega's.. you can use flax seeds as well. hemp seeds are not allergenic so for a younger baby i would use that rather then flax.
here is a good green smoothie recipe:
few leaves of greens (swiss chard, kale, collards, etc- one type at a time is best)
few sprigs of mint.
2 very ripe bananas (ripe banana will be speckled)
handful of blueberries(fresh is best, but frozen is good too)
handful of mango chunks (fresh is best, but frozen is good too)
tspn hemp seeds ... u can also use hemp oil
2-3 Dates for sweetner (u can also use Agave, or Honey- if baby over 1)
water to desire consistency- blend.
it comes out delicious and my kids loooves it.

you can also give Almond Nut milk. My baby had severe milk and soy allergies as an infant, we tried everything.. not until we gave him nutmilk all his symptoms disappearead. In many countries Almond milk, or Coconut water is given to milk and soy allergenic babies. you should still be cautious and give a very small amount the first time.

you can also make avocado choco pudding..
use ripe avocado, carob powder, or coco if ur kid is fine w that, use a sweetner, either dates, agave , or honey if baby over 1.. blend and u get yummy pudding. u can dip some bananas or other sweet fruit.

hope it helps.
