My raw, healthy baby
My baby is 8 months and just started to eat solids, she stills nurses about 97% of the time, but I thought I would share some of raw food she loves. I soak prunes in water over night and blend them with a bit of young coconut water. I feed her plenty of avocados, bananas, apricots, and green smoothies. She loves raw hummus that I gave her when she was mooching off my dinner plate. My older kids who are vegan but not raw love my raw chocolate, and raw smoothies. They get calcium from sesame milk and sea veggies. Plenty of B12 in dulse and kelp, also in kombucha. None of my children are vaccinated. They have never been on antibiotics and hardly ever get sick. They are 12, 10 and 8months.

Hi Kimberly, great to read your message. I have a six month old that I am just about to start on solids and would like to do so with as many raw options as possible. I will go and get some prunes today. Any other ideas. I gave her a tiny bit of banana yesterday and regretfully gave her some rice cereal today as I didn't know what else to give her. I would appreciate any tipes you have as I am a little overwhelmed and confused with all the info that is out there.
thanks, caramac

Hi Caramac, some more options: I soak rolled oats over night in water and they become soft then I grid them in a blender, and add some banana for sweetner. Starting with simple foods is best, that way if any reactions happen (like diaper rash, or other allergy symptom) you'll be able to tell what food caused it. Raw apples in the food processer with blueberries, young coconut meat ground up, green smoothies like kale, and parsley that I sweeten with dates and use a base of sunflower seed milk, or sesame milk. These are some of the things I started with- oh and also lentil sprouts ground with some garlic and miso, for some reason all my babies loved raw garlic. Happy eating, Kymberly

I've read somewhere recently that raw grape juice can be used as a temporary substitute for mother's milk. Sorry, don't remember the source.
Also, there's a chapter on Raw food for babies (broken down by age appropriateness and with recipes) in "Rainbow Green Live-Food Cuisine" by Dr. Gabriel Cousens. He lists the following foods for 6-7 months: young coconut water, pear (peeled), apple (peeled), ripe avacado, cucumber (peeled), almond mylk, wild-crafted red bananas (the book is about low-glycemic diet, so he didn't list regular bananas), papaya, sapote, mango, winter squash.

Wow, that is fantastic for your kids. Although I am new to raw and have been slowly introducing my 12yr and 5yr old I wish I had known more about this lifestyle when they were small. They both ate a healthier version of SAD, a lot of fruit and veggies but I think that my son's asthma would not have been as severe. Now that he's eating better, his symptoms have all but disappeared. I have been fortunate that they have both been healthy otherwise, few colds, ear infections or other "common" childhood illnesses but I can see how the raw diet will keep them that way. It all starts with a step in the right direction, keep those babies and kids healthy, that's our job.
