true organic???

Okay, I know that the regulations for organic food have been changed over the years. Is it true that most food that says it is organic is truly not organic.

I tend to get most of my food from the cafeteria at school which is definately not organic. I do go to the local grocery store and buy some produce for my room. I try to buy organic as much as possible but it is more expensive (poor college student). So really what I am trying to figure out is this produce at the regular grocery store really organic? And is it worth the price?

i wish i could give a really good answer but i'm confused myself.

All i know is that it's better to buy at a local co-op if it's organic (that's what i do)... I'm not sure if organic products in stores are worth the price..i'm a poor college student myself!!

You may never know the purity of your food, but you do know that eating fresh ripe whole food is the healthiest choice.

We just do the best we can, right?

The best we can do down the list:

1. Grow it ourselves

2. Forage

3. Get to know our local farmer/U-pick/farmer's market

4. Buy as much organic as we can and/or ask for it at our local grocer

5. Buy the "safer" conventional produce which has the least amount of pestcides when necessary and buy the "higher pesticide" produce organic. http://www.sdearthtimes.com/et0996/et0996s5.html

6. Happily buy conventional produce when the need arises because it's still a healthier choice than an 'organic' cooked meal, right?

I heard that it can be labeled organic and have up to 5% non-organic elements. So, in other words, it's not always 100%, but I guess it's still better than non-organic!

Yea, many commercial organics are just barely skirting the regulations. And you have to question companies like Dole when they put out an organic line...
They are just trying to get some of the market.
