Your body is adjusting and it takes time. Whatever you are eating though, sounds like it is irritating you and you should not eat it. There are so many raw things you can eat, why bother cooking it?

Sometimes if I eat something with too much salt in it, it gives me the runs.

well i understand what you are saying, but i dont want to risk food poisoning

for the safety of it, i will just avoid foods that are unable to be eaten when unsprouted or uncooked like wheat berries and quinoa, it is better for me to replace those foods with new foods that i have never tried so i can keep a variety. i never really liked the taste of soaked and sprouted foods anyway. i would rather consume phytic acid than risk getting food poisoning because it can be lethal. it is not worth it. i am better off growing wheat grass with wheat berries instead of sprouting it in a bacteria laden water bath. i will still try to eat 100% raw, without the risk.

Sad

I'm really sorry to hear about the trouble you're having.

That's very disturbing! And must be very discouraging. I hope I can help.

How are you soaking? For example, are you leaving it out overnight at room temperature? Is it possible bacteria are growing?

Where are your raw almonds coming from? How are they stored between uses?

Chuck

rawdream -- I haven't seen the proper way to soak almonds (and other nuts). I did it for the first time last night and left them soaking in the fridge. I didn't realize I could get sick if I did it wrong??

Thanks!

Hmmm, I submitted a lengthy post last night but it hasn't appeared...

Mallory, if the diarrhea and nausea continues, it may be time to consider seeking medical help. Maybe there's something else going on?

Please keep us posted on your progress.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

Take care,

Chuck

I didn't realize it either... Clearly Mallory is having serious trouble though.

Check out this post I found: h t t p : / / curezone.com/forums/am.asp?i=1101989

(I had to munge the link a bit. Just remove the obvious spaces. Apparently putting a link in your post makes it have to pass moderation. And seems like the moderator is busy, as my last two post attempts haven't "stuck.")

Note the section about a possible fungus in raw almonds. Maybe soaking can also "sprout" almond fungus?

According to Alissa Cohen's book (p. 278), "Almonds just need to be soaked for 1-2 days and then kept in the refrigerator in water. Change water daily. Will keep for 5-6 days." This implies that sprouting is done at room temperature (which jives with what I've read elsewhere), and stored in the refrigerator.
