Hi everyone,

this is an excerpt from an email session i was having with my friend bob this summer on topic for our discussion

and yes...i'm feeling a little lazy to write

"It seems we never hear people who are supporting an animal product diet talking about god/consciousness. in fact usually we hear it in context of how much better we will be able to look or compete or physically enjoy, medicinally it is only incorporated to help us survive and sustain here in the physical realm...it is interesting

the other thought I had was that we never hear about transcendent experiences coming from the effect of eating meat or dairy products where pretty much every plant serves to heal in some way and there are of course many plant forms that people have used to have complete consciousness altering
experiences

now, in my personal experience, I was a vegetarian for 15
years...during that time I stopped competing in sports almost
immediately, gained weight, and felt tired often and had no material drive but I also discovered yoga, acupuncture and herbal medicine,
meditation etc
during the last 3-4 years I added meat into my diet. I began to
exercise more intensely . lost weight (the more meat I ate in
proportion to grain/veg) and made more money

so we can see there are pros and cons to each scenario and of course
there were other pressing factors/choices impacting the outcomes but you get my drift. "

quickly let me add that this morning i ate my lamb buger out of the pan......i have had some difficult digestion the last two days and i am feeling a lot better today than i was yesterday

this i think is mostly attributed to a more balanced diet for me overall and the acupuncture i did for myself last night

i was feeling pretty horrible but it was not a clean experiment in regard to the meat as i was eating coconut butter, cacao, dehydrated flax and raw cheese all to a MUCH higher volume than i had been for a very long time

like i had been having none and added all three on sunday and monday....yikes

Hello all!

This is an interesting discussion! I just wanted to add my two cents here. I was vegan for three years, and raw for a year... I was totally into the philosophy of not eating animal products for all the ethical/spiritual reasons.... but physically they were the worst three years of my life. But I guess I am just "one of those" who despite it all, still feels better with a small ammount of meat in my diet, in addition to mostly raw vegetables, nuts, seeds, and fruit. I do eat meat cooked though, and usually with rice. I know I need the variety that meat provides, since I don't really tolerate grains (besides rice) and definitely don't tolerate dairy. I experimented with raw meat but it just seemed yucky. This for a while I felt difficult to justify spiritually, until I realized I wasn't functioning - not working, not able to really do anything - I was SO tired and SO plagued by brain fog it was impossible to do anything but lay on my parent's couch. Now I figure this was all just a part of pre-diabetes ... but even giving raw another try I still can't get all vegan - there's just not enough to eat that's affordable as far as fats and proteins and doesn't really satisfy. I believe in the possibility of it for me someday, and I know that meat eating is not for everyone, but I guess that's just been my experience. That said - ducks are fantastic to raise - very entertaining little creatures!! The eggs are rich and the ducks clean up our yard and kitchen waste real good! Get rid of all the bad bugs and slugs in the garden. You really don't need to do anything special except buy laying mash or deer corn, provide a kiddie pool of water, a fenced area, and get the Pekin ducks because they are too big and fat to fly away. With four hens we got 2-4 eggs a day, and I've eaten them both raw and cooked.

Well-know Buddhist tales for consideration that this conversation reminded me of with no judgment or interpretation on my part:

When Buddha was about to die from starvation from his spiritual austerities someone brought him a bowl of a dairy product which saved his life, opened him to the concept of the middle - path and which, without even moving from the spot under the Bodhi tree where the person gave him the food, enabled him to stay in meditation and experience enlightenment.

Story two of Buddha meditating and starving in a forest when a small animal throws itself on Buddha's fire in sacrifice of itself to save Buddha's life.

Hi Joseph's mama,

I completely understand where you are coming from. In philosophy, I would easily be vegan and not have a problem not eating meat or dairy. But my body doesn't agree either. I don't tolerate grains, especially gluten grains, those are completely gone from my diet forever more. But not eating meat doesn't seem to work for me. I don't function well either. And I really truly love my raw diet.... I can't even tell you how much better I feel eating raw. So I know exactly where you are coming from.

As far as duck eggs, that's so cool! I live in the city, so there won't be any eggs here for me, but maybe when I sell this darned house and get out of the city I can look into it. I have heard that duck eggs are fabulous.

So how do you eat the raw eggs? I've been considering it for awhile so one of these days I might go ahead and try it!

Have you tried raw dairy? I seem to handle small amounts of it well.

Melissa

hi everyone....loving the discussion, i'm back to my basics of all raw veggis and fats with the addition of cooked meat....i think the lamb was a poor choice, maybe it was the quality....even though organic and humane something was wrong there, it was ground , so who knows what part of the animal i was really eating.

anyway, the fasting buddha story has personal meaning for me and i really do believe that spiritually, there are appropriate times to fast and be vegan and appropriate times to eat and engage in a different way

for me it was like i graduated from fasting. though i practice eastern meditation and medicine, my most intimate spiritual connection besides with nature itself, has been with Christ and i literally feel there came a time/ an age when i was told no more fasting, it's done. not that i shouldn't continue to eat in a way to maximize my consciousness and that at times i should limit animal intake but that at least for now my fasting period is over

when we need to let go of things, to die to the selves that we know and attatch to, it is time to fast and return through surrender to god. when god is ready to use us as a tool, we have to reach out and take nourishment for life here and now and fulfill our purpose

i don't know about raw meat. i still think on some level it is healthier. i had such an amazing experience with that buffalo. for the first time i saw our universal field, total non-duality
and it was completely visceral, not a concept

i came out of my fear that has made me try to stay seperated and now i am filled with abundant meaning of creativity and the limitless potential of what i can choose to do with this life
holy crap!

Hello,
I'm brand new here and very new to raw; however, I'd like to add that some raw foods even raw meats are in the regular American diet, i.e. sushi. One other dish you may not be aware of is beef carpaccio, which is usually an appetizer. Here's a recipe I found:

Beef Carpaccio Recipe courtesy Alton Brown, 2005
Show: Good Eats
Episode: Tender is the Loin 2

8 to 10 ounces beef tenderloin from the tip end of the roast
4 handfuls arugula or mixed greens
Your favorite vinaigrette
Kosher salt
Freshly ground black pepper
Shaved Parmesan

Wrap the tenderloin in plastic wrap and place in the freezer for 2 hours.
After 2 hours, unwrap the tenderloin and thinly slice the beef into approximately into 1/8 to 1/4-inch pieces. Lay out sheets of plastic wrap and place each slice onto the plastic. Top with another piece of plastic and gently pound the meat with a meat mallet until paper thin. Repeat until all of the meat is sliced and pounded. Divide the meat evenly among 4 chilled plates. Serve with greens tossed with vinaigrette, salt, pepper and/or Parmesan.

Is jerky considered raw since it's dehydrated on a dehydrator at the same temperature as fruit, crackers, etc.?

For those saying they need higher levels of protein, check out Spirulina. It has the most protein of any food coming in at 60%-70% protein by weight!
