New GMO-Pluots

Maybe this is old news but I just found out about these hybrid fruits called Pluot a cross hybrid of plum and apricot. I get pretty angry everytime I see an add about new GE Crops and people rushing out and buying them like they're then next best thing with out seeing the present danger. It's just really fusterating.

Not as weird as soft drinks! Carbon, a biological waste product, acid that will eat through cement, sugar great for rotting teeth, creating diabetes, obesity and innumerable harms and last but not least caffeine to create addiction - all combined and fed to children. How gullible and dumb can people be????

You know, I agree with Buttermilk on this one. If a fruit cannot create life of its own, it probably will not create life in my body. Crossing unrelated fruits creates a sterile seed. That's not natural. Fruits are designed to fall into the ground a spring up as a tree - with fruit of its own. Those fruits will fall and spring up a new trees. Sterile seeds can't do that. They are lifeless.

Lifeless.

Don't think I want that in my bod'.

For the record, I saw a stranger cross than that at my former employer's (a health food store.) A honeydew melon nectarine. Those two aren't even in the same family! At least plums and apricots are biologically related to eachother. Vines and trees aren't.

Oh, I agree whole-heartedly with Buttermilk. What I meant is that it's not surprising to me that people will eat nonsense fruit when they'll drink Coca-cola and eat twinkies.

The whole GMO thing is downright terrifying. I remember many years ago I saw on TV a program about gene manipulation when it was all new. They showed a picture of a couple of pigs that had their chromosomes spliced with humans. They were unable to stand. They did a close up on their faces. It was like looking into a human soul's eyes. There was high intelligence and the depth of despair and pain in those eyes. It made me sob and the image still haunts me.

We having started down what could easily be a very slippery slope. At the least foolish, at the worst criminal beyond anything ever perpetrated by humankind.

WOW, bunny! That's just downright terrifying!

Not to mention that it just opens up a whole new can of worms. GMO is a huge subject, just when it's limited to the health consequences of tinkering with our foods. But, tinkering with the entire food chain is another story!

When will we ever learn to quit playing God!?!?!?!

I bet God doesn't care lol He's probably just laughing at them they way a adult would laugh at a child trying to dig a hole with a stick. What's so bad about the natural food that got them to think up a whole new way to create and grow their own food is what I want to know. lol

why we play God

Vej.... The reason for splicing is addiction to fat, sugar and profit. In nature we gravitate to foods high in fat because they are extremely rare and hard to get. I tried to open a natural almond on a beach in Puerto Rico 25 years ago and it made a dramatic impression on me. It was really hard to get that measly little nut out of all those layers. It was not worth all the trouble. But now we have machines that do it and still want more fat faster. Those pigs were bred that way to be very high in fat and weigh a lot. In nature fruit is also not easy to find and our natural food so we crave the sugar in it. Fruits that are hybridized are done so for a higher sugar content and the gmo varieties' sugar content is off the chart. That makes consumers buy them which equals money. The splicing also makes food deteriorate slower and stay better to market, look nicer and cheaper which all equals less losses and more money. It's all about addiction and greed.

btw, I would imagine that God is shaking her head saying, well, if you're going to play "me" at least try to do a little better job of it!

wow greenbunny!!! You're so cool. I like how you portrayed God as a girl too. I never thought of it that way. It just might be. Those greedy little B@$t@rds! But then again tons of uninformed people buy it too so it's not all their fault either that there's so much GMO they just found a way to steal our money which is what everybody is trying to do. Yes even rawfood people lol.

Hey Vej, I'm sure God isn't a girl. With all that power she must be a full grown woman!

As for everyone trying to take our money - well, they can try - but it's up to me not to let them as an informed consumer. I won't give away my power, after all, I'm made in God's image. Hee hee.
