Gaining weight

I have been eating raw since March 15th. 1st month 2 slip ups. 2nd month very difficult time eating raw. Bought new house, moving, that sort of thing. I recommitted myself to raw about 7 days ago and have steadily gained weight.

I am no light weight either. Started at 190lbs which is a lot for 4 ft 10 inches, went down to 160lbs, now up to 165 have gained that 5 pounds in 7 days totally raw.

Help I do not understand

Are you using sea salt? Are you exercising? If you're exercising, you could be gaining muscle mass. A weight gain of 5 lbs is nothing to really be worried about because it could just be water. You could be retaining water because of the time of your cycle (I'm assuming you're a woman, Vickie). Or if you are using salt, you could be retaining water. Bodies can retain water for all sorts of reasons. It's totally natural for your weight to fluctuate about 5 lbs. It's possible that you are building up for a cleansing and you might see your body get rid of the excess water and toxins and things level out after that. It sounds to me like you're eating really healthily and doing the best you can for your body, so you should not worry about the numbers on a scale!

Hallo
I have a similar problem. I have been eating mainly raw fruit for 3 years and have steadily gained weight (20lbs). I thought it might be a result of menopause but it keeps climbing. A dietician said its the high sugar content of the fruit - besides the normal response of unhealthy and unbalanced diet. I'm surprised as all comments on websites refer to losing too much weight rather than gaining weight. Comments anyone??

Hey guys! I had a similar problem. I turned to raw food and gained weight. I tend to be addicted to carbs and my body does not process them well. I was eating far too much dried and fresh fruit along with too much dehydrated food. I turned to green smoothies that are predominately dark leafy greens and limited my fruit and nut intake. Raw or not, it still comes down to calories in versus calories out. Eating this way, I can lose weight very easily if I exercise.

I lost tons of weight within the first 3 months of being raw and I was slim to begin with. Once I added dehydrated foods (i missed eating breads and crackers) to my diet, I started gaining a little bit of weight again. I am now at a point where I actually don't crave the dehyrated stuff as much - it was more a matter of want than need when I craved it.

What I've been told is that the bulk of your diet should consist mostly of green leafy stuff, then fruits, and the nuts, seeds etc. to a minimum. I personally eat light snacks and meals throughout the day, and eat the heavier stuff (like your burritos, pizza, sandwiches, patties etc.) only once a day or not at all. And in all honesty, the more time that passes being raw, the less and less I need and want to eat!

Congratulations on losing 30 lbs the healthy way, by altering your lifestyle. I think the bottom line is that if you feel really great and healthy, don't worry about the numbers as much, esp 5lbs. Keep up the healthy lifestyle, make sure you get plenty of exercise, sleep and water =)

Cheers!

Hi Honey.

I also gained weight when I started a raw diet and it took me several months to figure out why. I was eating a lot of dehydrated things, nuts, seeds, and dried fruit. Yikes! I finally figured out eating mainly fresh fruit and greens was the way to go (so simple!). I lost weight pretty easily and am continuing to lose. I highly recommend Victoria Boutenko's Green For Life, www.howtogoraw.com, www.foodnsport.com, and www.fredericpatenaude.com for more information. Since I found the 80-10-10 (80% carbs, 10% protein, 10% fat) I have become much happier, healthier, and have more energy!
