Question #1: What are some raw food staples in your current diet? How did you start? Are you 100% raw?

I ??went raw ?? in 1993. I was vegan, and intuitively eating a lot of salads and fruit, and someone told me about raw foods and I read Survival into the 21st century. It all made sense, and I ??ve been on a high raw diet ever since. I don ??t like to say 100 % raw though. I never cook my food, and I never knowingly eat cooked food, but you can never be sure. And I think putting a number on it is limiting, I don ??t think it ??s important. I think raw should be about freeing yourself up to live your life, and if you start worrying too much about whether your cashews are heat-treated or beating yourself up because you had a rice cracker, it kind of defeats the object. For me, it ??s all about learning to recover the body ??s intuitive wisdom, to really listen to the messages we receive from our cells, and sometimes it ??s better to eat a plate of steamed veg than another mango. It ??s gotta be wholistic.

Currently, I drink about two to three litres of water a day. I have wheatgrass juice for breakfast. I take Vibe, which is an amazingly potent mineral drink, and Vitalzym, a systemic enzyme supplement. I ??m really into etherium gold, which balances the two hemispheres of the brain and creates more alpha brain waves. I eat cacao every day, but only a little. I have about a pint of green juice for tea. I eat lots of superfoods, I love sea vegetables, and we always have leafy greens. Every year my diet gets simpler and I find it easier to meet my nutritional requirements as my body gets cleaner and just does what it ??s meant to do better.

Question #2: What is your book, Eat Smart Eat Raw about? What's different about your book than most other raw books?

Eat Smart, Eat Raw was first published in the UK about four years ago. It ??s the recipes I used to feed my husband and children. They ??re all recipes that I made time and time again, in the kitchen, in a rush, when they were waiting for dinner, and I still had a pile of household chores waiting for me. I had to learn to make raw food that wouldn ??t take forever, but also that they would actually eat. Before I had children, I had all these grand schemes of the perfect diet I would feed them, but as kids do, they turned all my ideas upside down. They were their own people, and they wanted to eat what they wanted, when they wanted. So I had to get clever and figure out ways of getting the right foods into them and pleasing their taste buds. As far as I know, my book is unique because it ??s the only one to have arisen out of a family situation with small children like that, and as any mum will tell you, making food for a family on a daily basis is a very different thing from gourmet cuisine in restaurants and retreat centres.

Question #3: Why is exercise on the raw diet important? Do you do any yoga?

Yeah, I love yoga. Yoga and raw foods are so complementary, they ??re both about union of the body and the spirit. A lot of people who work for me are yoga teachers too. We did start daily yoga sessions for a while, where we ??d all stop work and do ten or fifteen minutes practice together, it was so beneficial. We let it slide for a bit when the girl who was leading the sessions left, we are trying to get into the rhythm again. I ??ve been doing yoga 13 years, the same amount of time I ??ve been eating raw. Doing yoga every day is as essential as getting your green juice.

Question #4: How do you come up with a recipe?

The best ones are spontaneous, divine inspiration. If something ??s good then I ??ll write it down, then make it at least three times, usually more, to perfect it before I publish it. A good recipe has to be replicable, you can make it over and over again and it always works. I think a lot of raw recipes aren ??t tested properly, which is a shame because people make them and they don ??t work and that puts them off trying anything else.

Question #5: Can you share a favorite raw food recipe with us?

Today for lunch I made a guacamole that was 1 avocado, 1 tsp pumpkin butter, preserved lemon, pinch Himalayan crystal salt, 1 tsp Seagreens, 1 tbsp Cellready minerals, tsp Crystal manna, teaspoon Blue manna, 1 tbsp flower pollen. I spread it onto two nori sheets and filled them with alfalfa sprouts and had two nori rolls. It was gorgeous.

Question #6: Do you have any dental problems on the raw diet?

No, but my children did. When Reuben, my eldest was born nine years ago, there was just so little information around, about feeding adults on a raw diet, let alone children. Now there is a growing consensus that a high fruit diet is not balanced or sustainable, but back then low glycaemic just wasn ??t something we thought about, it was, if it ??s raw, it ??s good. So Reuben ate a lot of fruit when he was little, juiced, fresh and dried, because that ??s what children like, and he hardly had any greens. He had a lot of cavities, from sipping on juice all day, and snacking on too much dried fruit, and just not getting enough minerals. With my second son Ethan, we made sure to avoid all that, and we were really upset when his teeth were bad too. Although he never needed fillings like Reuben did, his front two teeth came through very weak. We have a wholistic dentist who is fantastic; he is a Reiki master and a homeopath. He says the teeth are laid down in the womb, so it was down to my diet when I was pregnant. I continued breastfeeding Reuben all through my pregnancy with Ethan, so I couldn ??t have been getting enough calcium particularly. Thankfully, we seem to be doing all right with my third son, Zachary, his teeth are fine. I had a lot of greens when I was pregnant with him, and tons of maca during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Maca is the best for breastfeeding. He doesn ??t have much fruit, and he drinks his green juice!

Question #7: Where do you see the raw food movement heading?

It ??s so exciting for me right now, because I ??ve been doing this for such a long time, and nobody took any notice for ages. When we took over the Fresh network from Susie Miller, we had only about 100 members. That ??s 100 raw foodists in the whole of the UK! And gradually, people began to become more aware, but to explain to your average person about raw foods was still really hard work. Just since last year, there ??s been an explosion of interest and people are really starting to get it. I ??ve always said, when we were kids, vegetarians were seen as weird and cranky people who ate brown rice and lentils. And then there was a point where our culture just saw the sense of not eating animals that were killed, and vegetarianism became mainstream, and you could get a vegetarian dish on every menu. I think people will see the same logic of not eating food that has been killed by the cooking process. It ??s a critical mass thing, the hundredth monkey, and it feels like raw foods is on about the ninetieth monkey right now.

And to me raw foods is about so much more than the food we eat, it ??s about opening doors and freeing ourselves up to live the lives we are meant to live, to fulfill our true potential. The possibilities for mankind when we wake up to who we really are, are so huge, that ??s what really excites me. Raw foods is just the beginning.

Question #8: Can you please tell us about some of your current projects you're working on and/or developing?

We just opened the first raw shop in the UK, Raw Magic, in Brighton. We make fresh raw chocolate every day, and a lot of people come in just for that. We made over a thousand Easter eggs last month! We make raw chocolate bars and snacks, the most popular are the Hi-bar, Hi-trail, Whoosh and Hi-crunch, and they ??re going into the big wholesalers so they ??ll be available all across the country soon. There ??s just always so much going on, life is non-stop, I don ??t really have time to make plans. I just try to be in the moment and let it flow and trust in the divine wisdom of the universe; that ??s when the magic happens ??
