Consumer Reports Magazine (Aug. 2007 issue) : The top-rated blender was the Vita-Mix 5000
When temperatures soar, an icy concoction can really cool you down. Blenders are great for making all kinds of iced drinks, such as fruit smoothies. But with so many different blenders on the market, how do you know which can get the job done?
Consumer Reports magazine on August 2007 issue just tested 31 blenders ranging in price from a modest $45 all the way up to $400. There were models from Oster, KitchenAid, and Braun. Testers crushed ice and whipped up strawberry-banana smoothies. They also pur ?ed vegetables. Most of the blenders performed these everyday tasks very well.
In addition to performance, Consumer Reports tests how well a blender will hold up over a period of time. To evaluate durability, testers crushed seven ice cubes for one minute ??no water added ??at the blender's highest speed. They then repeated this test 45 times. All but five blenders passed the test. The top-rated blender was the Vita-Mix 5000. While a bit noisy, it rated excellent overall. But it's pricey at $400.
