I have heard that young coconuts are soaked in formaldehyde. They do have a thick skin, so I do not know how much of an issue this would be in terms of contaminating the insides. I know that the rule with nonorganic produce is that the thicker the skin, the less contaminated the insides are. For example, avocados, oranges and bananas are less exposed to multiple pesticides than are raspberries, strawberries and apples. If you find any research, I would be interested to find out!
Can you get fresh durian where you are living? I can only get frozen in my city, so I've only had it once. I have heard fresh is marvelous.
