Hm, well I'm not a doctor and I have never had your particular problem, and every body is different!

I see a lot of people jump into raw foods though and experience problems. Most of us do not have the luxury of taking the time to just lounge around while we go through painful detox symptoms, or in your case, recover from a very serious and painful illness!

So, why not try to gradually transition? There is no race to becoming 100% raw. I've said it before and I will say it again-some can do 100% cold turkey, but not everyone! Try to do it gradually, add raw food in slowly and see what doesn't give you problems. For the ones that do, eventually add them in but in small amounts. Maybe once your body has healed a little more, you can handle more raw and more raw foods? Even the ones that gave you a problem? Have you tried adding digestive enzymes like sunfood nutrition's Sun is Shining? Maybe that will help you digest raw food better? I know it helped me a lot. Years of cooked food may have depleted your enzymes. I know my grandma gets horrible digestive problems now from raw food-maybe because she is 90 and has lost her enzymes? There is some debate that body produces raw food and does not need it from food, and others say we have limited stores-whenever the medical community can't agree, I take what makes the most sense for me-and from personal experience, I can tell you a lot of people have seemed to deplete their enzyme stores because they can't digest the most natural of all foods-raw! How is it we can eat processed, man-made crap and digest it ok, but not stuff that grows naturally if we have not depleted some type of digestion aide??

Anyways, also try to avoid irritators such as nuts, broccoli, cauliflower, and other "gassy" foods! Those definitely can't help your situation!

Best of luck, and listen to your body-do raw slowly, and despite what some people might say-not all raw foodists have to do 100% Especially not in the beginning! I think I even read somewhere that raw foodists who are 80% raw have the same benefits of those that are 100% raw?
