i don't think that we can eat exactly as we would have eaten before the industrial revolution because we have put our bodies through so many different things. most people have eaten lots of bad food and toxic chemicals for at least the first part of their life, but every person is different and has eaten different things. so their bodies are at different stages. so one person might need to take a supplement while another person might not. one person might need one type of food while the other a different. also the soil in which our food is grown is so much different than before the industrial revolution and does not provide all of the minerals and nutrients that it would have before because it's natural supply of minerals and nutrients has been depleted over time from pesticides and chemical runoff and just all around pollution.
so really i think, supplements and oils and fats and herbs can all be good depending on the person you're dealing with. yes, we need to listen to our body and eat natural food. but, our world is not in the same place it used to be and sometimes our bodies are so bad off that supplementing our diet with something can benefit us.
i also don't think it's safe to listen to a guru and believe that just because he/she has seen it work for them or other people that it will work for you personally. if it doesn't feel good then don't do it. but if it feels good then do it. it's not good to rule out something completely just because there are a few people out there or even a lot of people out there saying it's not good. you need to analyze and think for yourself.
this reminds of my favorite quote of all time.

"Do not believe in anything simply because you have heard it. Do not believe in anything simply because it is spoken and rumored by many. Do not believe in anything simply because it is found written in your religious books. Do not believe in anything merely on the authority of your teachers and elders. Do not believe in traditions because they have been handed down for many generations. But after observation and analysis, when you find that anything agrees with reason and is conducive to the good and benefit of one and all, then accept it and live up to it."
- Buddha

alright, well please don't take this as an attack on what you said, double helix. i'm just opening up conversation and if you disagree with anything i said please feel free to respond. i'm open to anything.
