fat on raw
Vivyzeta,
Such a good question. I have been puzzled by this question myself, and asking about it for some time.
I am still not sure if someone can get fat eating raw foods but my instincts tell me there's a limit to how fat you can get on raw food.
Usually you hear people say they have trouble to keep weight on, not to lose weight, even when they are eating fats.
I have seen raw foodists that are quite portly, and others who look emaciated. I usually try to ask them what they eat and what they do for exercise because I would like to learn from them.
Some raw foodists look ill to me. I think there's more to health than food alone.
I don't know if anyone else has taken any notice, and pardon me for saying so on this forum, but it is something that needs to be discussed....
Victoria Boutenko, raw food author, is quite overweight despite being on a raw food diet for many many years. To me, when someone publicly lectures and teaches on the subject of raw food and health, one ought to set the example with their own lifestyle and their appearance should testify to their adherence of that. However, her recent appearances show the obvious fact that either a-the diet advocated hasn't worked for her in terms of weight loss or b- she doesn't eat the way she teaches others to.
I want to know because I want to learn from her.
I have emailed Victoria and asked her about her weight. She did not answer, but her son Sergei did, and he said she does eat the diet that she recommends but that she does not exercise, and this is the reason for her being so overweight. An honest reply.
Conversely, look at Angela Stokes, she's gone from being very obese to being quite slender on a raw diet, and why doesn't Victoria Boutenko have this going for her?
I am having trouble believing that even without exercise one could be that heavy on a raw diet. You just don't normally see that. It's not motivating or inspiring to see someone that heavy advocating a raw diet. I wish she would be more open to discuss this so people may learn from her experience.
I haven't seen anyone else that heavy on a raw diet except those just starting who are in the process of losing weight.
I know that raw fats are metabolized more efficiently than cooked fats but an excess is still not health-promoting, however I am also quite certain that one cannot remain obese eating raw fats in excess. Instead you usually see people lose weight despite the raw fats they eat.
Maybe people who eat too much raw fat don't feel like exercising because it can make you feel lethargic...?
Personally I lose weight like crazy when I go on a green smoothie cleanse, even in the absence of exercise, AND the weight stays off, even when I start consuming fattier raw foods. It's when I start adding cooked foods that the weight loss stops.
I also find that the fatty raw foods have a sort of built in way of limiting their consumption, I fill up very quick on fatty foods as they feel heavy. I enjoy an occasional "cheeze" cake raw but I cannot eat as much of it as I could if it were traditional cheesecake.
Is this true for anyone else?
Also eating raw foods gives me the energy and stamina to be able to exercise more.
If one is eating raw foods, how can one not exercise? You get a burst of energy and just have to move!
This is the beauty of eating this way. It makes me want to exercise and able to do it without so much exhaustion.
