Well-know Buddhist tales for consideration that this conversation reminded me of with no judgment or interpretation on my part:
When Buddha was about to die from starvation from his spiritual austerities someone brought him a bowl of a dairy product which saved his life, opened him to the concept of the middle - path and which, without even moving from the spot under the Bodhi tree where the person gave him the food, enabled him to stay in meditation and experience enlightenment.
Story two of Buddha meditating and starving in a forest when a small animal throws itself on Buddha's fire in sacrifice of itself to save Buddha's life.
