Wow, I can see why you got scared, especially in America where germs must be killed at all cost - especially in dairy. I have a different way of looking at germs and at what happened to you. Firstly I'd like to say that we are not educated as we should be about how to tell when food is not good for us because we eat such de-natured foods. If you had been exposed to raw milk through the generations and taught by your grandparents you probably would have never drank pink milk in the first place. But don't you find it very interesting that you didn't get sick?! That is because your immune systems were in tip top shape and fighting off those invaders just like immune systems are supposed to. Now, if you eat a cooked and unhealthy diet, it wears away at your immune system and then even lesser bugs could more easily do damage. Ironically, it might be just BECAUSE you were eating raw (perhaps including raw dairy) that you were so good at fighting an occasional bacteria mishap with a sick animal. I've been reading a lot about the immune system. The onslaught that our bodies combat every minute is beyond belief. Our ability to heal ourselves is truly amazing - and the better we eat and the more positive we think (proven scientifically to enhance the immune system) the better we are at fighting off those "evil" germs when they come along. I'm personally more worried about the fumes and toxins and chlorine that I come into contact with daily and my ability to fight against them than I am about an occasional germ gone wild in a raw food source. With the salmonella in the spinach people have gone crazy making sure that they cook even salad material! In the long run - I believe that we are thinking in a short-sighted way being so germ phobic instead of thinking about gearing up our immune systems. Some people never get sick no matter what they are exposed to..... they have bionic immune systems. I eat raw because I want to create just that - a bionic immune system. Eating the raw goat yogurt is a risk, but I personally think that it's riskier not to eat it if my body wants/needs it and I feel stronger from it. I also make this decision for myself only and not for a family (besides my dog - if anything happens we'll go together). Well, I thought I'd just throw a differing perspective out there.
