I think eating a durian is an experience in itself. I don't think it tastes like garlicy mushrooms, though it is quite unique. I recommend that anyone give it a try. It is slightly sweet, maybe with a mild mushroomy taste, but mine didn't smell either. I would definitely eat it again!
